Shelbyville High School's girls golf program opened the 2024 season with an eighth-place finish Monday at the Pendleton Preview.
Played at Fall Creek Golf Club in Pendleton, Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 14 in the state coaches association’s preseason poll, won the event with a 336.
Pendleton Heights Green was runner-up at 374 followed by Lapel (383), Brebeuf Jesuit (401), Hamilton Heights (402), Mt. Vernon (412), Pendleton Heights White (423) and Shelbyville (480).
Guerin Catholic’s Ali Scott (78) and Sydney Delagrange (79) were the only two golfers to break 80 in the 18-hole event on a par 72 course. Scott was named medalist.
For Shelbyville, Emmie Higgins led the scorecard with a 100 (49-51). Also competing for the Golden Bears were Riley Everette (115), Kylie Stader (130) and Maddy Jones (135).
Shelbyville returns to action Thursday at Mt. Vernon.
