Collegiate Update: Wilkins, Hudnall win HCAC track and field championship events

Triton Central graduate Brayden Wilkins and Waldron graduate Madalyn Hudnall won events at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

Competing for Franklin College, Wilkins won the 100 meters in 10.86 seconds and the 200 in a new school record time of 21.42. The old record was set in 1998.

Wilkins also teamed with Shelbyville graduate Logan Page as well as Myles Baker and Gabe Gomes to take second place in the 400 relay in 42.36.

At the conclusion of the meet, Wilkins was named HCAC Sprinter of the Year.

Page also finished 16^th in the 100 (11.73) and ninth in the high jump (1.73meters).

Hudnall, competing for Mount St. Joseph, repeated as the HCAC Javelin champion. Her best throw was 36.64 meters.

Here is a look at the Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Jake Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate finished tied for ninth place Sunday at the DePauw Spring Clash, played at Pebble Brook in Noblesville, Indiana. Garrison helped Franklin College to a third-place finish.

He carded rounds of 75 (+5) and 69 (-1) to finish at 144 (+4). His second-round score was the second lowest of the round.

Brayden Basey

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in Saturday for Christian Brothers in a 15-5 win over Union University (Tenn.) in Memphis.

Basey reached base safely twice Sunday and had a stolen base in an 8-7 win to close out the regular-season schedule for the Buccaneers (13-34).

Charlie Rife

The Shelbyville graduate had a single and scored a run Friday in Bellarmine’s 13-2 loss to Central Arkansas.

Rife had a walk Sunday in a 6-3 loss. The Knights were swept by Central Arkansas to fall to 17-26 this season.

Bryce Haney

The Triton Central graduate got the start on the mound for Wabash and earned the win Thursday in a 15-0 victory over Hanover College.

The left-hander pitched five innings, allowed two hits, three walks and no runs to improve to 2-1 this season.

Kali Laycock and Brooke Lipperd

The Shelbyville graduates each had a hit Wednesday for Franklin College in a 9-8 win over Hanover College. Laycock also drove in a run for the Grizzlies.

On Saturday, Laycock had a run batted in at Manchester in a 7-6 victory.

Franklin is 27-9 (11-3 HCAC).

Addysyn Wettrick

The Shelbyville graduate pinch-ran and scored in both games for Manchester Saturday against Franklin College.

Manchester is 15-16 (7-7 HCAC) this season.

Lillian Fillippinie

The Triton Central graduate earned the save Saturday for Muskingum in a 4-1 win at Wilmington (Ohio).

Fillippinie pitched three scoreless innings and allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two.

Muskingum is 29-7.

Jayda McKee

The Triton Central graduate had a single in three plate appearances Saturday in Anderson’s 7-1 loss at Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati.

The Ravens were swept in three doubleheaders last week to fall to 13-23 this season.

Karissa Hamilton

The Shelbyville graduate had a double Saturday in Kentucky’s 6-1 loss to Texas.

On Wednesday at Louisville, Hamilton delivered a 2-run home run in the 10^th inning to help the Wildcats defeat the Cardinals, 12-8.

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had a home run, scored two runs and drove in two Sunday for LSU in a 5-3 win at Mississippi State.

On Friday, Edwards had a walk and was hit twice in a 5-3 loss. She had two hits and a walk Saturday in a 5-2 loss.

LSU is 33-16 this season.

Cheyenne Eads

The Shelbyville graduate helped No. 4 Indianapolis sweep No. 16 McKendree Saturday, 3-2 and 2-1.

Eads was the winning pitcher in game one, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out eight. She reached base twice and drove in a run at the plate.

In game two, Eads drove in both runs for the Greyhounds and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh inning for a walkoff win.

Indianapolis improved to 51-3 this season Sunday with 9-1 and 11-2 wins over Illinois-Springfield. Eads upped her record to 25-2 with a complete game performance in game one. She allowed five hits and struck out seven.

Eads had three walks and scored three times in game two.
