Nicholas Wilson, 33, of Walton, was arrested Tuesday and booked at the Cass County Detention Center on two charges of auto theft, a Level 5 felony, residential entry, a Level 6 felony, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
A Walton man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after allegedly fleeing from police in a truck that had been reported stolen hours earlier in Logansport.
According to a press release from Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder, Cass County Central Dispatch received a call about a black pickup truck being stolen from the 12000 South block of County Road 300 East. Further investigation revealed that a Dodge Journey had been stolen earlier that day from the Burger King parking lot in Logansport and the stolen vehicle had been left at the scene where the black pickup had been reported stolen.
Walton Marshal Tom Heflin then spotted the stolen truck at the intersection of county roads 800 South and 300 East. The driver allegedly began driving into a farm field at the intersection and further eluded police by taking off on foot into a nearby wooded area after the truck became stuck in the mud. After an extensive search of the area by police, canines and drones, the suspect was eventually located in a nearby corn crib. During the search for the suspect, police received information that the same male had also been involved in an alleged residential entry in the 6000 E block of County Road 900 South.
Nicholas Wilson, 33, of Walton, was arrested and booked at the Cass County Detention Center on two charges of auto theft, a Level 5 felony, residential entry, a Level 6 felony, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Logansport Police Department, Walton Police Department, Walton Fire Department, Galveston Fire Department and the Indiana State Police during the incident.
