State Rep. Mike Karickhoff announces he will not seek reelection in 2026

Indiana State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-District 30) announced that he will not seek reelection in 2026, concluding more than two decades of elected public service in the Indiana General Assembly and on the Kokomo City Council.

Karickhoff, who currently serves as Speaker Pro Tempore, was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2010 and has represented portions of Howard and Grant Counties. His decision marks the close of a legislative career defined by bipartisan cooperation, community engagement, and a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of all Hoosiers.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of District 30 and the state of Indiana,” said Karickhoff. “I’ve always believed in practical solutions and respectful debate, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside so many dedicated public servants.”

Throughout his tenure, Karickhoff played a key role in advancing legislation to combat the opioid crisis, strengthen economic development, and protect Indiana’s natural resources. He has served on numerous committees, including Ways and Means, Natural Resources, Government and Regulatory Reform, and Rules and Legislative Procedures.

Before his time in the legislature, Karickhoff served as Superintendent of Parks for the City of Kokomo and as Executive Director of Facilities for Ivy Tech Community College. He also held leadership positions on the Kokomo City Council and was active in civic organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, Red Cross and the United Way of Howard County.

Karickhoff and his wife, Kelly, have four daughters and eleven grandchildren. He plans to remain active in the community and looks forward to spending more time with family. His retirement opens the door for continued leadership in a district that has long benefited from his steady hand and thoughtful approach to governance.
