Starke County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash with injuries on US 30 near 750 East, Grovertown.
The afternoon crash involved a single 4-door passenger vehicle and was determined to be a single-vehicle rollover crash. The vehicle was being driven by a 43-year-old female from South Bend. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling eastbound on US 30 when the vehicle struck several potholes, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then traveled off the east side of the roadway, rolled over, and struck a NIPSCO utility pole.
As a result of the crash, one juvenile was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of injuries. US 30 was temporarily shut down to allow for a safe helicopter landing.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Hamlet Fire Department, Koontz Lake Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Starke County EMS, and Lutheran Air.
The Indiana State Highway Department was contacted to inspect the roadway surface and its condition. Howard’s Towing and The Pit Stop Towing assisted with the removal of the vehicle.
