Plymouth Police arrested four individuals in separate driving violations on Sunday, September 27th, ranging from impaired driving to speeding and driving on a suspended license.
At 1:07 a.m., Officer Allen initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Plymouth-Goshen Trail and Hope Boulevard for a traffic violation. After speaking with the driver, 38-year-old Daniel Perkins of South Bend, the officer suspected Perkins was operating while impaired. An investigation found Perkins to have been operating at over double the legal limit. He was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15 or greater.
At 4:04 a.m., Officer Mark stopped a vehicle traveling on Michigan Road at approximately 93 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph zone. The driver, 21-year-old Angel Penaloza of South Bend, was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and without ever having received a license. Penaloza was lodged in the Marshall County Jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating without ever having received a license, reckless driving, and a warrant from another county.
Sunday afternoon at 12:40 p.m., Patrolman Thornton initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of King Road and U.S. 30. While speaking with the driver, it was confirmed that she had a suspended license. Kenyatta Cheryl Grant, 32, of Fort Wayne, was booked into the Marshall County Jail and charged with driving while suspended — prior.
Sunday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m., city police officers were called to the BP Gas Station at 923 N. Michigan Street for a welfare check on a male passed out in the driver's seat at a pump. He had been there for about three hours. During the investigation, it was determined that 26-year-old Gage Condon of South Bend was under the influence of drugs. Condon was given field sobriety and certified tests and blew a .034 blood alcohol content on a portable breath test. Marijuana was also located. Condon was arrested for OWI on a controlled substance, OWI endangerment, and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
