Patrick M. Ellis, 33, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
He was born December 2, 1992, in Chicago, IL to Russell Ellis and Rhonda (Young) Borton.
He graduated from Shelbyville High School with the Class of 2011. Patrick became one of Shelbyville High School’s greatest athletes. He was a four-year IHSAA state track championship finalist, finishing runner-up as a sophomore and again as a senior. He received the Kiwanis Outstanding Track Athlete Award all four years of his high school career. Patrick was a four-year letter recipient for SHS basketball and football teams and earned the Paul Cross and McKeand awards for basketball and football respectively following his senior seasons. He holds the Shelbyville track record for the long jump and ranks as one of the top five career rushers in Golden Bear football history. After high school, Patrick participated in football and track at Franklin College.
Above all, Patrick treasured the lifetime friendships he cultivated through associations, initially at the Boys and Girls Club beginning at the age of five, and later through his middle school and high school years. He was most grateful for these friends, teammates and their families that provided him unconditional love and support during his wonderful childhood. Patrick had a kind heart and a protective sense that made others feel comfortable in his presence.
He is survived by his mother; his step-father, Justin Borton, Sr.; siblings, Justin Borton, Jr., Jocelyn Borton, Russell Ellis, Jr., Rasheema Ellis, Rhanesia Ellis, Amber Ellis, Jauquarian Conner and Johnathan Conner; grandmother, Patricia Young; his loving fiancé, Katelynn Oliver; special cousins, Deonna Williams and Dajuan William; close childhood friends, John Hartnett, John Krise, Ben Kramer, Dominque Cox, Chase Clapp, Josh Southworth, Austin Wilkins and Zach Baird; Host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; his brothers, Adam Ellis and Darrius Ellis; close childhood friend, Gary Oldham, Jr.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2026, from Noon to 4 p.m. at Shelbyville High School, 2003 S. Miller St., Shelbyville, IN 46176, enter through Door C7.
Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the High School with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating.
Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Patrick’s family.
