An employee was injured in a fire in Akron Monday.
Henry Township and Rochester fire departments initially responded to Dragon ESP just after 9 a.m. Black smoke was coming from the open garage doors of the 80 x 400’ building. The initial report from employees stated that a possible explosion and a fire was in the paint booth in the structure.
Henry Engine 2 stretched an attack line into the structure for fire attack and was supported soon after by Rochester Engine 1. Initial crews were able to extinguish the fire and began checking for further extension into the structure. Upon the arrival of North Manchester Ladder 603, a crew was sent to the roof of the structure to search for extension in the air filtering system for the paint booths.
One employee suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital. No further word was available on that person’s condition. Two other employees refused medical treatment. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office. Anyone with information can contact that office at 1-800-382-4628.
Departments assisting Henry Township included the Rochester Fire Department, Mentone Fire Department, Pleasant Twp. Fire Department, North Manchester Fire Department, Chester Township Fire Department, Fulton County EMA, Parkview EMS, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton County Dispatch and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
