As the nation marks the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026, Marshall County residents are being invited to help preserve a piece of local history by contributing items to the Marshall County America 250 Time Capsule.
The project, organized in partnership with the Marshall County Historical Society and Museum, will collect meaningful keepsakes, memories, and historical materials that reflect life in Marshall County in 2026. The time capsule will be placed inside the Marshall County Courthouse, where its contents will be preserved for future generations.
Residents are encouraged to submit items that capture their families, businesses, communities, and everyday experiences. Suggested contributions include local memories and stories, community letters, local business advertisements, photographs documenting life in Marshall County in 2026, artwork, poetry, memorabilia, and other items of historical significance. Residents may also share their family's story, special memories, reflections on the county's past and present, hopes for the future, or anything they would like future generations to know about life today.
All items must be nonperishable and suitable for long-term storage in a time capsule that may be exposed to varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
Contributions may be dropped off at the Marshall County Historical Society and Museum, 123 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2026.
"This time capsule is an opportunity for our community to leave a lasting record of who we are, what we value, and what life is like in Marshall County during this historic year," organizers said. "Future generations will have the opportunity to learn about our community through the stories, photographs, and keepsakes we leave behind."
For questions or additional information, residents can visit the Marshall County Historical Society and Museum at 123 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth or send a message to Marshall County's America 250 Facebook page.
