As America's 250th birthday celebration continues, The REES Theatre and the Marshall County 250 Committee are inviting the community to a pair of free screenings of the beloved musical film 1776 on Sunday, June 28th — with showings at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
The screenings are part of the committee's ongoing America 250 Film Series, a program designed to bring historically significant films to the big screen as the nation marks a quarter-millennium of independence.
Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, 1776 brings one of the most pivotal moments in American history to life with wit, music, and memorable performances. The film follows John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and the Continental Congress as they debate, wrangle, and ultimately forge the Declaration of Independence. Filled with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs, the film offers audiences — whether seeing it for the first time or the twentieth — a uniquely entertaining window into the founding of the United States.
Both screenings on June 28th are free of charge, made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor whose sponsorship has underwritten the America 250 Film Series. The REES Theatre expressed deep gratitude for the contribution, which ensures that community members of all ages can enjoy and learn from these important stories without cost.
Guests are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance at reestheatre.org on the upcoming events page, whether planning to attend the afternoon or evening showing.
Series Continues in September
Following 1776, the America 250 Film Series will continue in September with The Crossing, the acclaimed historical drama depicting General George Washington's daring crossing of the Delaware River and the pivotal Battle of Trenton — another chapter of the Revolution brought to life on the big screen at The REES, also sponsored by the same anonymous donor.
The REES Theatre is located in downtown Plymouth. For more information and to reserve tickets, visit reestheatre.org.
