Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzger has proposed a $55.2 billion budget for fiscal year 2026.
That is a $2 billion increase over the current 2025 spending plan.
In his address to state lawmakers in Springfield Wednesday, the governor said it would be a tough year fiscally for the state, but is committed to passage of a balanced budget.
Both of the lawmakers representing Lawrence Co issued statements critical of the plan afterward.
51st District Republican State Senator Chapin Rose said the governor has a spending problem with his budget increasing annually since he took office.
102nd District State Representative Adam Neimerg said the governor's budget address did nothing to solve the very serious fiscal problems facing the state of Illinois.
