The Lawrence County Board this week took steps to help curb substance abuse among its citizens.

They voted unanimously for an ordinance which would ban the sale of synthetic intoxicating substances such as Kratom. Lawrence County State's Attorney Brady Waldrop is a proponent of the measure. He told GIANT-FM News that these types of non-regulated supplements are used in combination with other illicit drugs by people to get "high" in violation of the law.

The ordinance only covers establishments within the county and not cities, towns and other municipalities. Waldrop added that the city of Lawrenceville recently enacted such a ban inside it's city limits and the city of Bridgeport is also considering it.
