An Indianapolis man faces operating while intoxicated and drug possession charges after a Plymouth police officer found him in a running vehicle in a restaurant parking lot early Friday morning.
Officer Ayala with the Plymouth Police Department was conducting a business security check at Bob Evans at 12:58 a.m. Friday, January 8, when he discovered a vehicle running in the parking lot after business hours.
The driver, Zachari Halstead, 34, of Indianapolis, was investigated for suspected driving under the influence.
Halstead was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
Plymouth Police regularly conduct security checks at local businesses during overnight hours to check for suspicious activity, ensure buildings are secure, and deter crime.
The Marshall County Prosecutor's Office will review the case for potential formal charging.
Charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. All suspects are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
