The Howard County Prosecutor has requested the Indiana State Police to investigate an August 2 officer-involved shooting with the Kokomo Police Department.
In a letter sent to Lt. T.J. Zeiser, Commander of Indiana State Police District 16, Prosecutor Mark McCann emphasized the importance of an independent and impartial investigation to maintain public confidence in the integrity of the process.
McCann also wrote that further updates will be provided to the public as the investigation progresses, in coordination with the Indiana State Police.
The incident occurred in the 2100 block of South Lafountain Street. The man killed was identified as Jonahton Landis, 30, of Kokomo. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and student at IU Kokomo. The cause and manner of death are pending results of an autopsy and toxicology.
No officers were injured in the incident.
