Attorney General Todd Rokita announced today that, with months still remaining in 2026, his office has already shattered the record for the amount of unclaimed property returned to Hoosiers in a single calendar year.
As of this announcement, the Unclaimed Property Division has returned nearly $90 million to rightful owners in 2026 — surpassing the previous record of more than $88 million set in 2025.
“From day one, our team has been laser-focused on getting every possible dollar back to its rightful owner,” Attorney General Rokita said. “Breaking last year’s record-shattering mark shows what’s possible when we stay relentless in serving Hoosiers. This is a great achievement and milestone, but we’re not done — there’s still nearly a billion dollars of your money is still waiting to be claimed, and we’ll continue working to return every single cent.”
Attorney General Rokita credited Unclaimed Property Division Director Amy Hendrix and her entire team for the record-breaking achievement, praising their proactive outreach to locate owners before they even know to search.
“This record belongs to the whole team,” Hendrix said. “We worked hard and went further than ever to find people and return what is theirs. Every claim we process is real money back in Hoosier hands.”
Unclaimed property includes forgotten bank accounts, uncashed wages or commissions, money orders, safe deposit box contents, refunds, insurance proceeds, utility deposits, and overpayments such as credit card balances or cell phone bills.
Hoosiers can search for unclaimed property free of charge at any time by visiting IndianaUnclaimed.gov or by texting CLAIM to 46220. They may also contact the Unclaimed Property Division at 1-866-462-5246 or updmail@atg.in.gov.
