One person is dead and another seriously injured after a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon in Fulton County.
First responders were dispatched to the crash around 4:20 p.m. at 4960 N. Old U.S. 31, between county roads 450 North and 550 North.
The crash, the result of a vehicle crossing the center line of the roadway, involved a 1998 Buick LeSabre driven by Quinton R. Sayger, 23, of Rochester, and a 2011 Dodge Avenger driven by Kenneth Hendricks, 37, of Plymouth.
Sayger died on the scene from multiple blunt force trauma, according to the Fulton County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was to be conducted Wednesday, July 3, at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
Police say Hendricks was airlifted in serious condition to a nearby hospital.
The roadway was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup, with emergency personnel on scene until approximately 7:40 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation, with a reconstructionist requested from the Indiana State Police.
State police and the county coroner’s office were assisted at the scene by the Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton County Emergency Management Agency and Parkview EMS.
