Early Friday morning, September 26th, officers from the Plymouth Police Department investigated a domestic incident that included a stabbing and strangulation on South Plum Street.
At approximately 4:00 am, city officers were dispatched to 334 S. Plum Street to a domestic disturbance, and when officers arrived, they found a female outside wrapped in only a towel. Inside the home was a significant amount of blood strung throughout the house, along with multiple bloody knives.
The suspect, 37-year-old Celvin Diaz Meraz of 334 S. Plum Street in Plymouth, was ultimately located inside the home with a laceration to his hand. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
It was alleged that Diaz-Meraz had attempted to force sexual relations on the unwilling victim, who was located outside the home. A second male who was at the residence stopped the sexual battery.
Through the process of the investigation, it was found that Diaz-Meraz was the aggressor in the situation and that he had grabbed the victim around the throat, restricting the airway. He had also confined and battered the victim before the second male showed up to help.
Diaz-Meraz was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was lodged for sexual battery as a level 6 felony, strangulation as a level 6 felony, criminal confinement as a level 6 felony, intimidation as a level 6 felony, and battery as a class A misdemeanor and held on a $50,000 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed, and there is only probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
