Authorities have now released the identity of the male teenager who drowned Saturday in the Wabash River southeast of West Salem.
He was 15 year old Lex Brown of Merom Indiana. The Clark County Illinois Coroners Office say that autopsy results done Monday indicated that Browns official cause of death was drowning. Saturday morning, the Clark County Sheriffs Department was notified of an emergency situation involving a juvenile swimmer in distress in the river.
Brown was in the water with several family members when he was suddenly swept away by the strong current. His body was recovered by emergency rescue dive personnel after an extensive search about four hours later.
