Charges and active arrest warrants in a driveway scam investigation in Rush County.
The Rush County Prosecutor has filed charges in a case that dates back to an initial report just before Christmas. On December 23, the sheriff’s department received a complaint of a potential driveway scam.
A 77-year-old woman spent about $27,000 for driveway work in February of last year. She weas later charged another $8,000 by the same company in July for more driveway work. The money went to an individual working for a company called Interstate Paving.
Further investigation showed the woman was contacted by another man who introduced himself as a company employee. That man tried to collect an additional $9,000 using a fraudulent rebate offer. The victim did not pay any money during that time.
During the investigation detectives were notified that the victim had two fraudulent checks created under her account. Investigators were assisted by a local bank to locate the checks that had already been cashed at a local establishment. The checks were cashed for a total of $2800 and were then flagged as fakes by the bank.
Charges were filed by the Rush County Prosecutor on February 19. As of this report on Friday, Austin Boswell and Robert Boswell, Jr., still had active arrest warrants for this case.
Robert Boswell, Jr. has active warrants for his arrest for Level 6 felonies of forgery and fraud. As of Feb 27, he also still owes over $9,000 in court ordered restitution for previous criminal charges of this nature.
Austin Boswell has active arrest warrants for Fraud, Level 5 felony (victim is endangered adult) and two forgery charges, both Level 6 felonies. He still owes over $75,000 to victims for previous criminal charges of this nature.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Austin and Robert Boswell is asked to call the Rush County Sheriff’s Department at 765-932-2931 or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s app.
Law enforcement also emphasized that it appears the incident has happened in other areas and there may be more victims. Anyone who suspects they may be a victim of this scam is asked to contact the Rush County Sheriff’s Department.
