Discover Plymouth invites you to experience the first-ever Gallop & Gather: A Downtown Derby Day Event on Saturday, May 3rd, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the heart of downtown Plymouth.
This lively new event offers a full day of small-town charm and big Derby fun—featuring a Golden Horse Scavenger Hunt, local shopping and activities, a food and drink crawl, hat-making, and a live Kentucky Derby viewing party at The REES Theater.
Participants will begin by checking in at Ella & Ava Boutique at 1 PM to receive their Gallop & Gather punch card. From there, they will explore downtown shops for the Golden Horse Scavenger Hunt—searching for hidden golden horses to earn punches and prizes. No purchase is necessary to participate, but purchases at participating businesses earn bonus punches and extra chances to win prizes at the Derby party.
Local shops will offer special Derby-themed activities throughout the day, including vintage hat features at Black Cat, "Pin the Tail on the Horse" at Fernbaugh’s, and DIY fascinator and hat-making at Heartland Art Center. The Food & Drink Crawl begins at 4:00 PM with appetizers and drinks at Opie's and Yellow River Eatery.
The celebration culminates at The REES Theater, where doors open at 5:30 PM for the Kentucky Derby Viewing Party. Guests can place "bets" using their punch cards for a chance to win prizes, enjoy light snacks, visit the cash bar for Derby drink specials, and watch the Kentucky Derby live on the big screen. For an upgraded experience, guests can reserve balcony seating for $15, which includes a charcuterie box from Gather 2 Graze and private server service. Individual charcuterie box orders must be placed by May 1st.
Tickets are $35 and include access to the scavenger hunt, food and drink crawl, Derby party entry, and prize drawings. Tickets are available at: https://gallopandgatherdowntownplymouth.eventbrite.com.
“We’re excited to kick off a new tradition that combines the energy of the Kentucky Derby with the local spirit of our downtown,” said Anna Kietzman, President of Heartland Art Center. “This event is a great opportunity to celebrate community, creativity, and everything we love about Plymouth.”
Brian Teall, Director of The REES Theater, shared, “The REES is proud to be part of this collaborative downtown event. Hosting the Derby on the big screen will be a unique and exciting experience, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people into our beautiful historic space.”
Alicia Davis, owner of Ella & Ava Boutique, added, “Gallop & Gather is about more than just shopping—it’s about connecting with friends, meeting new customers, and showing off all the incredible small businesses that make downtown Plymouth special. We’re thrilled to be part of it.”
