The demolition order for 2220 Lake Avenue, approved by the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety last month was granted an extension last week.
Plymouth Building Commission Dennis Manuwal told the board the property is in the process of being sold. The current owner Sheila Ellabarger and the prospective owner attended the meeting. Ellabarger said a purchase agreement has been signed and closing is expected in the next week or so.
Manuwal said a dumpster has been at the site for a few weeks and they have been working to clear the interior of its contents.
The initial demolition order’s first date of November 1st was the 30th day to have a substantial start and then at 60 days complete demolition and removal of the structure. The Building Commissioner suggested an extension to allow the prospective owners time to demolish the structure which has sustained a fire and then had a tree fall on it.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the extension since progress is happening and the structure and the property are in the process of being sold.
City Councilman Duane Culp also asked about the home on Hope Boulevard that burned in May of this year. He said the property is an eyesore.
Building Commissioner Manuwal said the homeowner is still waiting for the insurance company to settle. He said it can take up to a year for the process to be completed. Until the insurance company settles, the homeowner isn’t able to do anything with the structure.
