Authorities have now identified the man who apparently killed himself during a standoff with police at an Effingham truck stop late last week.
He is 33 year old Jamon Weaver of Decatur, Georgia. He is suspected of robbing a Michigan bank last Thursday and then making his way into Illinois in a semi-truck. Weaver was later located at the TA Truck Stop in Effingham on Friday afternoon.
Police attempted to take him into custody, but he was able to arm himself and barricaded himself inside the cab of the semi. Negotiations aimed at ending the situation peacefully ensued until late in the evening, when Weaver became unresponsive.
Authorities then entered the cab and found him dead inside of a self-inflicted gunshot.
There were no other injuries in the incident. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday in Bloomington, with toxicology results expected back in about 30 days.
