The Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved a signage variance for Dash Getaways, paving the way for the travel agency's upcoming relocation to a new downtown development.

Owner Lana Ball is moving her business from its current location on Lincolnway East to the newly created retail space at 215 Water Street, part of the Water Street Townhouse development.

To accommodate the new storefront, Ball requested a variance from city development standards to allow for three signs, including a perpendicular hanging sign. Current Plymouth city ordinances limit businesses to two signs and generally prohibit hanging signs.

The approved design includes two flat signs attached to the south and east sides of the building. The third is a perpendicular hanging sign measuring less than 28 inches in diameter, which will be installed near the front entrance with a minimum ground clearance of eight feet.

Plymouth Plan Director Ty Adley supported the request, explaining to the board that despite the addition of a third sign, the total signage area remains significantly below the maximum square footage permitted for the building's exterior walls.

The variance was approved unanimously following a public hearing that drew no comments for or against the proposal.
