Burn Ban issued in Fulton, Miami and Pulaski counties

A Burn Ban has been set in place in Pulaski, Miami and Fulton counties.

Officials first issued a disaster emergency declaration in Pulaski County on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Fulton County then followed suit, also issuing a burn ban on Thursday, after concerns over drought conditions and wind conditions in the area.

Miami County issued a burn ban in recent days, too. The Miami County ban includes an ordinance allowing local fire departments to cite residents if a need is witnessed.

Burn bands are issued when it has been determined that a state of emergency exists in the County, causing issuance of the declaration of the burn ban to be in full force and effect in the County for the protection of the lives and property of the residents.

The following activities are prohibited in Fulton and Pulaski County until further notice:

Open burning of any kind using conventional fuel such as wood, or other combustible material, with the exception of grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane. Charcoal from permitted grills should not be removed from the grills until the charcoal has been thoroughly extinguished.
The burning of debris, such as timber or vegetation, including debris from building construction activities.
Campfires are acceptable only in a fire ring and only if it is supervised. The fire must be extinguished if you will not be supervising the fire at any point in time.

Officials added they strongly encourage residents to also refrain from using firework devices at this time.

All residents are being asked to comply with necessary emergency measures and to cooperate with public officials and disaster service forces in executing emergency operations plans.
