A tragic farming accident claimed the life of an Argos man Monday evening after he became overcome by smoke while working inside a grain bin on the family farm.
The Marshall County Coroner's Office was notified of a death at 14942 Maple Road in Argos at approximately 5:08 p.m. on Monday, August 10th. An investigation determined that Jonathon Hayn of Argos had been working inside the grain bin when the grain began burning, and he was overcome by smoke.
Family members and workers on the scene attempted to remove Hayn from the grain bin but were unable to fully rescue him. Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 4:13 p.m.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Argos Fire Territory, Plymouth Fire Department, Parkview Paramedics, Argos Police Department, and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office. Firefighters were ultimately able to remove Hayn from the grain bin, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner John Lampkins.
An autopsy has been scheduled to assist in determining the exact cause of death. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office will release additional information when it becomes available.
