Two young men smoking marijuana in River Park Square were arrested after a city officer observed them.
Monday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Corporal Schieber was on bike patrol and in the area of River Park Square. He located two males, Johnathon Gutierrez-Reyes, 19, and Gerson Martinez, 18, both of whom reside at 1223 West Harrison Street in Plymouth. The teens were smoking marijuana in the park.
The officer determined that both Gutierrez-Reyes and Martinez had marijuana and were taken into custody. They were transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in on misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana.
Their cash bonds were paid, and in less than two hours, they were each released on bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed, and there is only probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
