Triton Central junior Zoie Gray pinned all four opponents Saturday at the Muncie Central Regional to capture the IHSAA regional championship at 190 pounds.
Ranked No. 3 in the state and unbeaten this season, Gray (photo, second from right) needed just 26 seconds to pin Connersville’s Cora Francis in her opening round match Saturday morning.
Gray then defeated New Palestine’s Miranda LaRoche in 1:46 to secure her berth in the IHSAA State Finals.
In the semifinal round, Gray pinned Centerville’s Shelby Life in 1:51 to set up a fourth meeting this season against Franklin Central’s Sophia Jones for the regional title.
Jones, ranked No. 4, has been pinned twice by Gray this season and beaten 11-1. In Saturday’s championship match, Gray scored a late pinfall (5:37) to get her fourth win over the Franklin Central senior.
Ten Shelbyville and Triton Central wrestlers competed in two separate regionals Saturday. Eight of the nine other than Gray lost in their regional openers.
Triton Central’s Farah Coen pinned Greensburg’s Anastasia Ridzon at 145 pounds in 1:01 to reach the quarterfinal round. With one more win, she would have advanced to the state finals.
Carmel’s Daniela Ramirez-Zarate, ranked No. 4, pinned Coen in the second round to bring an end to the Tigers’ season.
