
Three Shelby County athletes qualified for IHSAA track and field regionals.
At the East Central Sectional Tuesday, Morristown’s Sawyer Rogers and Brooklyn Carlton advanced out of individual events with top-three finishes.
Rogers finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.53 seconds. Carlton was fourth in 16.76 and did not automatically advance. Her time could get her added to the regional field.
Carlton left no doubt she would run in the regional event when she finished second in the 300 hurdles in 49.69.
Rogers and Carlton will race again on May 27 at the Lawrence Central Regional which features sectional qualifiers from East Central, Greenfield-Central, Lawrence Central and Pendleton Heights.
At the Franklin Sectional, Shelbyville’s Macey Robbins (photo) advanced to the Ben Davis Regional.
Robbins placed third in the 400 in 1:01.3. Her teammate, Alyna Castanon, finished sixth in 1:03.29.
The Ben Davis Regional will feature sectional qualifiers from Avon, Ben Davis, Franklin and Terre Haute North.
Other top-10 finishers at sectional competitions Tuesday were:
- Morristown’s Nevaeh Cox, ninth in the 400 (1:05.56)
- Triton Central’s Sawyor Murdick, seventh in the 300 hurdles (53.2)
- Triton Central’s Bella Ball, eighth in the high jump (4-8)
- Triton Central’s Lydia Hough, eighth in the long jump (15-3)
- Shelbyville’s Amara Lewis, ninth in the 200 (28.03).
- Shelbyville’s Haylee Barnes, eighth in the pole vault (7-6).

Triton Central 4, Waldron 1
Triton Central secured its third win of the season over Waldron and advanced to the semifinal round of the Shelbyville Sectional.
The Tigers will face Morristown today. In the other semifinal, Southwestern battles Shelbyville.
At No. 1 singles Tuesday, Maryrose Felling defeated Emerson Lindsey, 6-1, 6-2.
Ellie Gast secured a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Ava Leising.
Neve Kahler and Kate Collier bested Riley Price and Jackie Corlett, 6-1, 6-2.
And Caydence Stout and Estelle Gearlds completed the doubles sweep for Triton Central with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Malia Murphy and Madeline Walker at No. 2 doubles.
Waldron’s only win came at No. 2 singles where Riley Thurston rallied from a set down to defeat Anniston Evans, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
