Shelbyville power surge overwhelms Columbus North

COLUMBUS -- Sydney Brown and Lexi Rogers hit three home runs and drove in 10 in Shelbyville’s 12-1 win Thursday at Columbus North.

Brown (photo, left) made Columbus North pay for two first-inning errors with a three-run home run that made it 5-0 to eventually chase starting pitcher Bailee Scruggs.

Rogers (photo, right), a sophomore, delivered a three-run home run in the fourth inning off Columbus North reliever Payton Morris to extend the lead to 8-1. She added a solo home run in the sixth inning that pounded the Columbus North scoreboard and a two-run double in the seventh inning to finish with seven RBIs.

The Waldron transfer is leading Shelbyville (2-2) with a .692 batting average through the first four games.

Reagan Dillon had two hits and scored two runs. Addison Wooten had three hits.

Gracie Crafton pitched a complete game to earn her first win of the season. She scattered seven hits and struck out nine.

Columbus North dropped to 2-3.

 

 

After getting shut out in their first two games this season, the Golden Bears have scored 22 runs in back-to-back wins.

Both Shelbyville and Columbus North travel to Evansville today to compete in the Castle Invitational.

Columbus North faces Monrovia (1-2) and North Posey (4-2) in pool play games tonight.

Shelbyville takes on Evansville North (2-3) and Elkhart (3-1) in pool play games.

Each team will play two more games Saturday morning.

Shelbyville opens its final season as a member of the Hoosier Heritage Conference with four games next week. Shelbyville hosts Pendleton Heights Monday and Yorktown on April 18 and travels to New Castle Tuesday and Delta on April 17.
