Prep Report: Triton Central tennis improves to 8-1 with win over Waldron

Triton Central produced five straight-set match wins Friday to secure a home victory over Waldron – a potential sectional opponent.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling improved to 7-0 this season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Emerson Lindsey.

Anniston Evans defeated Riley Thurston at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 7-5.

Ellie Gast pushed her record at No. 3 singles to 6-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lilly Mann. Gast is 8-1 this season in singles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, Neve Kahler and Kate Collier improved to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over previously-unbeaten Riley Price and Jackie Corlett.

Estelle Gearlds and Caydence Stout bested Malia Murphy and Madeline Walker at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-3.

Triton Central is 8-1. Waldron dropped to 4-2.

In other prep events Friday:

Baseball

Tri-West 10, Triton Central 6

At Triton Central, a 6-run fifth inning gave the Tigers the lead but the Bruins scored five runs over the final two innings to secure the win.

Ethan Frye had a home run and drove in three runs for Tri-West (10-3). Graham Willhelm had two doubles and drove in two runs.

Blaine Raider took the loss for Triton Central (9-4). Kaleb Murphy started for the Tigers and allowed two hits and five walks while striking out five.

Bo West had two hits and drove in two runs for Triton Central.

Hauser 8, Southwestern 0

At Southwestern, the Jets slowly pulled away from the Spartans to strengthen its lead in the Mid-Hoosier Conference standings.

Damyon Hunter had two hits and scored two runs. Kameron Blair scored twice and drove in two runs.

Stryker Gill allowed five hits and struck out 10 to push the Jets’ record to 9-3 (8-0 MHC).

Isaac Bunch took the loss for Southwestern (4-4, 4-3 MHC). Six errors made all eight runs allowed unearned.

Softball

Morristown 10, Edinburgh 4

At Morristown, a 4-run fourth inning proved enough run support for Morristown starting pitcher Abby Hawk.

Morristown led 2-1 going into the home half of the fourth inning and plated four runs to extend the lead to 6-1.

Hawk scattered eight hits and five walks while striking out five to get the Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-3 MHC) a split of the conference series.

Sawyer Rogers had three hits for Morristown and scored three runs. Nevaeh Cox and Ayvah Weir each drove in two runs.

Kenna Streeval had three hits, including a double and a triple, for the Lancers (8-8, 4-4 MHC).

Track and field

Park Tudor Invitational

Morristown finished fourth in the boys team standings and eighth in the girls standings.

Morristown freshman Colston Allford won the high jump event with a best clearance of five feet, 10 inches.

Sophomore Arik Trattner placed third in the 200 meters (23.97 seconds) and fourth in the long jump (18-6.75).

Sophomore Trenton Bell was runner-up in the discus (107-6).

And the foursome of Gavin Wilson, Brayden Keithley, Weston Cole and Trattner finished third in the 400 relay (46.09).

Sophomore Brooklyn Carlton scored three runner-up finishes in the girls meet.

She finished second in the 100 hurdles (17.21), 300 hurdles (51.49) and high jump (4-10).

New Castle Invitational

Triton Central finished third in the boys team standings. The Tigers were fourth in the girls standings.

Triton Central’s event winners were Zeke Robertson in the 110 hurdles (15.70) and 300 hurdles (40.17), Henry Kemper in the long jump (18-7.5) and Willie Baugh in the shot put (48-10).
