Prep Report: Greenwood halts Class 2A, No. 11 Triton Central's win streak

Greenwood’s third-quarter run was enough to end Class 2A, No. 11 Triton Central’s 5-game win streak.

On Tuesday at Greenwood, Triton Central led 19-17 after one quarter and 24-19 at halftime.

Parker Doolin and Acen Swain combined to score 13 points in the third quarter while the Woodmen defense limited the Tigers to just four points.

Triton Central got its offense back in gear in the fourth but could not spark a comeback.

Eli Sego led Triton Central (6-2) with 18 points. Jackson Faust finished with six points.

Doolin had a game-high 19 points. Swain finished with 13 and Braden Reynolds added 11.

Triton Central is at Class 3A, No. 3 Roncalli (6-0) Friday.

Boys basketball

Tri 40, Morristown 35

At Morristown Tuesday, the visiting Titans improved to 4-0 against potential sectional opponents.

Morristown rallied to tie the game at 28-all after three quarters but managed just two field goals over the final eight minutes to see its 4-game win streak come to an end.

Tri improved to 7-1 despite missing all seven of its free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Mason Butler led the Titans with 11 points.

Kellen Crim topped Morristown (5-3) with 16 points.

The Yellow Jackets are at Cowan (1-5) Saturday.

Girls basketball

Oldenburg Academy 49, Waldron 13

At Waldron Tuesday, the Class A, No. 10 Twisters improved to 12-2 this season by limiting the Mohawks to a season-low point total.

Oldenburg Academy raced out to a 20-4 lead after one quarter and never trailed again. Gina Grote led the Twisters with 16 points. Rachel Suttman finished with 15 and Norah Haverkos had 12.

Emerson Lindsey led Waldron with five points.

The Mohawks (5-7) are off now until the Shelby County Tournament on Jan. 8 when they host Morristown (6-6) and try to avenge a 35-32 loss to the Yellow Jackets that occurred on Dec. 11.

Cloverdale Invitational

Southwestern finished 0-2 Monday with losses to Mitchell and Bloomfield.

In a 41-25 loss to Mitchell, Hayden Ramey led the Spartans with 11 points. Bryla Dunbar finished with seven.

Raylee Blackwell scored a game-high 12 points for Mitchell (5-11). Raylee Thompson had 11.

Bloomfield defeated Southwestern in the consolation game, 56-21.

Lola Myers scored 18 points to lead the Cardinals (5-9). Lani Graves and Dixie Hudson each scored 11.

Dunbar topped the Spartans (2-13) with eight points.

Southwestern returns to action Jan.6 at Greenwood Christian (7-8).
