Three northern Indiana athletes finish 1-2-3 in Athletes with Disabilities division of 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

Thirty thousand registered participants from 23 different countries, 5 continents, and 50 states crossed the finish line Saturday at the 2026 IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K.

James Quattlebaum from Greenville, SC won the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon men’s race with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 27 seconds. Rebecca Schmitt of Edgewood, NM won the women’s race with a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 10 seconds, and became the new women’s course record.

Keeton Thornsberry from Louisville, KY won the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K men’s race with a time of 14 minutes and 43 seconds. Flannery Davis from Boulder, CO won the women’s race with a time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds.

In the Athletes with Disabilities division, Matt Bohner from Wabash, IN, took home first place with a time of 1 hour, 54 minutes, and 45 seconds. Daniel Dunithan from Syracuse, IN, took home second place with a time of 2 hours and 8 seconds. And, Kayla Dove from Warsaw, IN, took home third place with a time of 3 hours, 4 minutes, and 9 seconds.

Drew Hunter from Longmont, CO won the USA Track & Field 5 KM Men’s Championships with a time of 13 minutes and 27.61 seconds. Karissa Schweizer from Portland, OR won the USATF 5 KM Women’s Championship with a time of 14 minutes and 59 seconds.

Today brought about a few additional highlights, including:  

  • Zach Burton, Kaid Hutchinson, Zachary Davenport, Ian Leatherman, and David Lane achieving a record-breaking time for the fastest half-marathon in a five-person costume (unofficially)

  • Ben Dick unofficially became the youngest male runner to complete the fastest half-marathon for his age (11 years old).  

2026 marked the 50th Running of the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and 27th Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K. Caroline Trennepohl, Miss Indiana Volunteer, performed “Back Home Again in Indiana” before the start of the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K. Ephraim Owens, a contestant from season 24 of NBC’s The Voice, performed the national anthem prior to the start of the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. For full race results, visit indymini.com/results.

The Mini-Marathon has become an iconic tradition, led by Hoosiers and embraced by the global running community. Known as The Greatest Spectacle in Running®, the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has become a pinnacle event for families and friends to participate year after year.

The Mini-Marathon starts and finishes in downtown Indianapolis and includes a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500. As participants reach the famed Yard of Bricks, many will stop to kneel and “kiss the bricks,” an Indianapolis 500 winner tradition. The flat and fast course is uniquely enhanced with 15-course aid stations, over 40 course entertainers, and thousands of community volunteers, all cheering participants to their checkered flag finish.
