Investigation is continuing by the Illinois State Fire Marshalls Office called in and local fire officials into the cause of the early Wednesday morning structure fire in the city of Sumner.
The blaze occurred at the former May building in the 100 block of Christy Avenue and destroyed it. The building was vacant and was already undergoing demolition when it caught fire around 2 a.m.
Multiple firefighting agencies assisted the Christy Fire Protection District in containing the fire, including the Lawrence-Allision Fire Protection District (LAFPD), Bridgeport FPD and Denison FPD.
The fire caused extensive damage to Ameren Illinois high voltage power transmission lines which led to electrical outages throughout the city. Repair crews from the company responded to the scene and power was restored later that day.
