Shelby County Commissioners issue county-wide burn ban

The Shelby County Commissioners, at its Monday morning meeting, issues a county-wide burn ban effective immediately.

The decision comes in response to the ongoing dry conditions and heightened risk of fires throughout the area.

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice, with the commissioners planning to reassess the situation next week.

The burn ban restricts all outdoor burning, including campfires, brush fires and the use of fireworks. Residents are urged to exercise caution and comply with the ban to prevent potential fire hazards that could result in property damage or personal injury.

“Public safety is our top priority. The dry weather has created a serious risk of fires, and we are taking every precaution to protect the community,” said Shelbyville Mayor Scott Furgeson in a media release. “We ask for everyone’s cooperation during this time and encourage all residents to stay updated on the situation.”

For more information and updates on the burn ban, residents can contact Denis Ratekin, Director of the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency at denis.ratekin@co.shelby.is.us.
