Redistricting Meeting for Plymouth Elementary Schools Feb. 15th

The Plymouth Community School Corporation is working with a company on redistricting the four elementary schools in the corporation. 

Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter spoke on WTCA’s “What’s Your Opinion Show” on February 2nd the discuss the process of redistricting and promoted an upcoming public meeting on the topic. 

The superintendent said Jerry McKibben will be presenting two options for redistricting.  One of the options would impact approximately 148 students by forcing them to change to another school.  Mawhorter said using the current elementary school enrollment number of 1,163 students in the four elementary school buildings, that impact will be about 13% of the enrollment.  The second option has approximately 350 students changing schools which is closer to a 30% impact. 

Mawhorter said, “Both options have some merit, but even Jerry McKibben says that rarely is this a finished product at this point.  There are still going to be changes made to whatever direction we go.  It is inevitable that some students and teachers will be moved as a result, but we believe it is in the best interest of the students in the short term and the long term.”

Part of the redistricting is to reduce the amount of time students are on the bus.

The public and school officials will get their first look at the redistricting options at a public meeting that will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:00 PM at Lincoln Jr. High in the cafeteria.
