Prep Report: Golden Bears runner-up at HLC Girls Golf Tournament

Shelbyville girls golf finished runner-up in its inaugural appearance in the Hoosier Legends Conference Girls Golf Tournament Tuesday at Sarah Shank Golf Course in Indianapolis.

Indian Creek captured the team title with a 408 score. Shelbyville was two shots back at 410. Greenwood finished third at 413.

Completing the field were Speedway (422), Tri-West (455), Beech Grove (489), Triton Central (Inc.) and Monrovia (Inc.).

Beech Grove’s Delores Hines was the medalist with a 92. Shelbyville’s Hana Stenger and Speedway’s Camille Powell finished at 93.

Julie Garrison shot 98 and finished seventh in the overall standings.

Also competing for Shelbyville were Harper Adams (109), Sophia Bragg (110) and Lilly Huesman (112).

Triton Central’s Charlee Baker placed 11^th overall at 1-2.

Boys soccer

Greensburg 4, Southwestern 1

At Southwestern, Jacoby Miller scored a pair of second-half goals to secure the hat trick and push the Pirates’ record to 5-0 this season.

Miller scored his first goal in the opening seven minutes to give Greensburg a 1-0 lead.

Landon Drake countered 22 minutes later off an assist from Ethan Sipes to tie the contest.

Lucas Kramer scored in the final two minutes of the first half and the Pirates never trailed again.

Southwestern dropped to 2-2-2 this season.

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 3, Greenwood 2

At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears’ No. 1 doubles pairing of Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed needed three hours and three sets to dispatch of Greenwood’s Will Shaffer and Beau Syers, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 to secure the team victory.

Bram Kolkmeier improved to 7-1 at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luke Winget.

And Owen Shively and Grant Tackett cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 No. 2 doubles victory over Coen Whitson and Nolan Curtis.

Shelbyville evened its record at 4-4.

Franklin 3, Triton Central 2

At Franklin, the host Grizzly Cubs won both doubles matches and added a win at No. 3 singles to defeat the Tigers.

Brayden Hoover and Bradyn Robinson secured singles match victories for Triton Central (7-2).

At No. 2 doubles, Vincent Flowers and Conner Alsip needed three sets to defeat Owen Rice and Cash Eck, 6-7 (7), 6-2, 10-6.

New Palestine 4, Waldron 1

At New Palestine, Waldron’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer secured the only, 7-6 (3), 6-2 over Jackson Clark and Davis Harrison.

At No. 1 singles, Charlie Fischer suffered his first loss of the season to Carson Rush, 6-2, 6-1.

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Greenwood, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19

At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears got double-digit kill performances from Lyla Wilson (13 kills) and Annabelle Bringle (11).

Jordyn Noe had five kills and a team-high five service aces.

Hayden Ricketts had 10 assists and setter Addy Marshall collected 37 assists.

Shelbyville improved to 5-3 (2-1 HLC).

Greenwood fell to 3-8 (1-2 HLC).

Triton Central def. Monrovia, 25-20, 25-15, 25-16

At Monrovia, Kate Collier had nine kills and 11 digs to lead Triton Central (7-3, 3-0 HLC) to its fourth consecutive victory.

Anna Kemper notched 20 assists and Savanna Plew had five aces.

Triton Central is at Shelbyville Thursday.
