McDonald's restaurants raise more than $80K for high school athletics

177 High Schools athletic programs to receive funds raised during October 2 High School Sports Digital Fundraiser

McDonald's customers throughout Indiana, Southwest Michigan and Southeast Illinois have rallied in support of local high school athletic programs, raising $81,843.01 during the inaugural High School Sports Digital Fundraiser Day. 

McDonald's owner/operators contributed 10 percent of all sales made through the McDonald's app on Oct. 2 to designated high schools, benefiting 177 athletic programs statewide. The fundraiser supported high school athletic programs in the Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Lafayette, South Bend and Terre Haute.

Each locally owned McDonald’s restaurant selected a high school in their community to donate 10 percent of all digital sales on Oct. 2. Each identified high school received a minimum of $250.

This year marks the first time Indiana operators are hosting a High School Sports Digital Fundraiser. McDonald’s owner/operators in Ohio were the first to launch this type of fundraiser last year as a way to support high school athletics in the communities they serve. 

“This is the first time all Greater Indiana area owner/operators have come together on one day to show our support for athletics in the communities we serve,” McDonald’s owner/operator Jay Okayama said. “It was inspiring to see how our communities came out to support their high schools and help us make the High School Sports Digital Fundraiser Day a success throughout the state.”
