The longest serving mayor in the history of the City of Clinton has passed away.
Clinton city officials took to social media Saturday afternoon to announce Clinton Mayor Jack Gilfoy Jr. passed away at 2:10 p.m.
In a post, officials said, "It is with deep regret and sadness, per the notification of Mayor Jack Gilfoy Jr.'s wife that we are informing our community that Mayor Gilfoy passed away today at 2:10 p.m. We ask that you please respect the wishes of his wife and give them privacy during this difficult time. We appreciate your prayers and positive thoughts. Thank you."
Gilfoy had served Clinton since 2011 and made history in 2023 when he secured a fourth term as mayor. Gilfoy, a Democrat, became the longest serving mayor after defeating Republican challenger and Clinton City Councilman Bart Mooney by almost 200 votes.
Gilfoy had been busy this year, leading Clinton on a $10 million stormwater project near the town's sewer plant.
Arrangements are pending for Gilfoy.
