A carbon monoxide detector prompted a run by the Shelbyville Fire Department on Sunday.
Shelbyville Fire Department crews responded to The Mill apartments at 318 N. Tompkins St. Upon arrival, firefighters found that exhaust from a gas-powered carpet cleaning van parked near an exit door was pushing fumes directly into the building.
Firefighters evacuated affected areas and spent an extended period ventilating the structure. Air quality levels were tested and confirmed completely safe. and residents were then allowed to return.
