Collegiate Update: Former Shelbyville swimmer earns Jag of the Week award at IU Indy

Riley Everette had a runner-up finish in her collegiate debut with the IU Indy women’s swimming team.

The Jaguars opened the season with wins over Youngstown State (244-86) and Cleveland State (180-152) at the IU Indy Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Everette, a Shelbyville graduate, finished second in the 100 butterfly in 57.33 seconds. She also tied for fourth in the 200 butterfly (2;16.59).

Everette also was part of two IU Indy relay teams that produced top six performances. The 200 freestyle relay team placed fifth (1:40.36) and the 400 freestyle relay team finished sixth (3:40.43).

Everette’s performance earned her a Jag of the Week award, which is voted on by the team based on demonstrating toughness, leadership and what it means to be a great teammate.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Axel Conover

The Shelbyville graduate had five tackles Saturday for Hanover College in a 43-26 win at Maryville College.

The Panthers are 2-0 this season.

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate had a team-high five receptions for 54 yards Saturday for Franklin College in a 52-0 loss at Butler in Indianapolis.

Wilkins also had a kickoff return for 22 yards.

Franklin is 1-1 this season.

Jake Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate finished tied for 15th place and helped Franklin College golf to a third-place finish in the Stateline Shootout Sunday in Harrison, Ohio.

Played at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course, Garrison posted rounds of 75, 76 and 73 for a two-day, three-round total of 224 (+8).

Ellie Simpson

The Shelbyville graduate helped IU East women’s soccer secure a pair of shutout victories.

Simpson played all 90 minutes Wednesday in IU East’s 1-0 win at Michigan-Dearborn.

On Saturday, IU East blanked Earlham College, 6-0, to improve to 2-2-3 this season.

Cassie Pike

The Shelbyville graduate scored her first collegiate goal for Anderson women’s soccer Saturday in a 6-0 win over Olivet.

Pike scored late in the match to set the final score.

The Ravens improved to 3-1 this season.

Gwyn Williams

The Triton Central graduate had three digs for Defiance volleyball Wednesday in a 21-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13 win over Lawrence Tech.

Williams had four digs Saturday in a 30-28, 25-12, 25-10 loss at Cornerstone (Mich.).

Defiance is 11-7 this season.
