Knauf Insulation, Inc. now serves as an official corporate supporter of the American Lung Association, bringing together two organizations with a shared commitment to supporting healthier indoor environments.
Knauf’s announcement of its new partnership with the American Lung Association coincides with National Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month, held each October to raise awareness about the connection between healthier indoor air and healthier lives.
Through this partnership, Knauf and the American Lung Association will highlight the importance of healthier indoor spaces with a focus on providing information about the ways that proper building practices and material choices can improve indoor air quality.
People spend nearly 90% of their time indoors, underscoring the importance of air inside buildings such as homes, schools, and workplaces, ultimately playing a critical role in overall wellbeing.
“At Knauf, we're committed to manufacturing products that contribute to healthier, sustainable, and energy efficient buildings,” said Bill Matthias, Knauf executive. “By working with the American Lung Association, our goal is to help educate people on the impact indoor environments have on personal wellbeing and help create solutions for the built environment that offer peace of mind to building occupants.”
Knauf has long focused on developing insulation solutions that help improve building performance, energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality. Knauf Performance+ insulation has been third-party tested by Allergy Standards, Ltd. (ASL), ensuring they have formaldehyde-free binder, extremely low dust levels post-installation, and extremely low VOC emissions at 24 hours and 14 days post-installation.
The Knauf Performance+® portfolio has also been recognized by the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program, developed by the AAFA in partnership with ASL, which certifies products proven to reduce allergen exposure and minimize pollutants in the indoor environment.
“Air pollution is an invisible danger that too many people encounter in their homes. Commonly-found pollutants like chemicals from cleaning products and building materials, particulate matter from dust, gas burning appliances and cigarette smoke, e-cigarette vapor and radon can all be harmful to everyone’s health — especially for children, whose lungs are still developing, older adults and people with lung disease,” said Jill Heins, Senior Director of Nationwide Health Systems Improvement and Indoor Air Quality for the American Lung Association. “Source control, ventilation and air cleaning are critical to improving indoor air quality, so we are honored to partner with Knauf to educate people on how to improve their health.”
Together, Knauf Insulation North America and the American Lung Association are helping advance a shared vision of healthier buildings and healthier lives.
