It is the end of an era for a company that was founded in Fillmore almost five decades ago.
In a recent letter to dealers, James W. Grooms II, president of Alamo Group Ag Americas, the owner of Dixie Chopper, announced the decision to cease manufacturing all lawnmower models. Grooms cited "business reasons" in his letter and stated the product line and dealer network is to be concluded by April 1, 2027.
Art Evans created Dixie Chopper, producing the first lawnmower, the Magnum 5018, in 1980 on his parents' property outside Fillmore.
Putnam County Commissioner Rick Woodall stated he was "terribly sad" to hear the news.
"It's a sad day for Putnam County. Hopefully, we can find those people new jobs," Woodall told TGIANT fm News.
