Larry Tippin, Putnam County Historian and representative of the Putnam County Cemetery Commission will be giving a talk at Putnam County Museum at 6 PM on Thursday, November 5.
Tippin will be presenting the commission’s new website, which features updated mapping and personal data from burials in the 200+ cemeteries located throughout Putnam County.
The Cemetery Commission is a five-member board appointed by the county to provide oversight on the county cemeteries with a particular emphasis on maintenance and care of cemeteries that are not under the jurisdiction of township, governmental, or private entities.
Cemeteries inscriptions hold a huge amount of information for those interested in local or personal family history, however, accessing this information can be difficult. The Commission has therefore been hard at work creating new online tools to help members of the community access this information.
They will be introducing their new and updated research capabilities to the public at Putnam County Museum on Thursday, November 5 at 6 PM. All with an interest in local history are invited to attend.

Admission to the museum is free, always. Non-members are encouraged to consider making a donation to support the museum, and we encourage everyone to pick up a membership brochure on their next visit to learn about membership options and benefits.
Putnam County Museum is located at 1105 North Jackson Street in Greencastle. It is open Monday-Friday from 10-4 and on Saturdays from 12-4.
