“Ars Nocturna: Art of the Night” Art Show

The Strand Theater, Cinema Scares Film Festival and the Shelby County Public Library are partnering to present “Ars Nocturna: Art of the Night,” the second annual macabre art show in conjunction with the film festival.

Film makers from all over the world will rendezvous in Shelbyville for the festival on the weekend of September 25 – 27. Films celebrating Hoosier horror will be showcased; submissions are slated to be previewed at The Strand Theatre and the Skyline Drive-In.

The library is proud to partner with The Strand and Cinema Scares to host the art show and contest. Paintings, photographs and 3D art are all welcome, and all ages may participate. Up to three submissions may be submitted for judging per contestant. The subject matter is limited to scary, creepy, monster or Halloween themes. Only original art will be accepted; no AI-generated works are permitted in the contest.

Submit art at the Genealogy & History Department in the Carnegie East Wing building, 33 W. Broadway St., by September 15. Voting on art submissions will begin the morning of September 16 and continue until September 25 at the library. Come in anytime during regular library hours to place your vote.

The top three winners will be moved to The Strand for the film festival, where a grand prize winner will be announced at 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 27 at the concluding ceremony. First prize: $100; second prize: $50; third place: $50 + ribbons.
