Vincennes University has announced that WVUT-TV will conclude its affiliation with PBS, effective June 30, 2026.
WVUT-TV will continue to broadcast PBS programming through the end of June, ensuring access to its current schedule for viewers during the transition period.
This decision follows a broader review of operations and long-term sustainability, following a loss of federal and state funding for public broadcasting in 2025. University leadership emphasized that the transition is part of an ongoing evaluation of how best to serve students, the region, and the University’s public service mission.
“WVUT has been an important part of our connection to the community for many years,” Vincennes PBS (WVUT) and WVUB-FM Interim Director of Operations and General Manager Kevin Watson said. “As we move through this transition, our focus remains on serving the public, supporting student learning, and maintaining meaningful engagement with the region.”
The University is continuing to assess options that align with its academic priorities and its commitment to public service.
WVUT-TV provides educational programming, cultural content, and public affairs coverage to southwestern Indiana and surrounding areas, reaching thousands of households each week. VU recognizes the value of this service and is currently evaluating how best to carry this mission forward in a way that reflects the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
