A Terre Haute man fled from an attempted traffic stop Monday.
About 1 p.m., Indiana State Police Master Trooper Bill Bradbury observed a black passenger vehicle traveling northbound on State Road 59 near Clay City. The vehicle appeared to be traveling well above the posted 55 mph speed limit. Activating his radar, he received a reading of 108 mph. Master Trooper Bradbury, in his fully marked police car, activated his emergency lights and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver ignored the emergency lights, and a pursuit ensued traveling northbound on State Road 59, continuing onto Interstate 70 westbound, reaching speeds more than 115 MPH.
The vehicle turned off Interstate 70 at exit 11 (State Road 46) turning eastbound onto Margaret Drive. After traveling approximately two miles, the driver made an abrupt U-turn through a private drive and began traveling westbound. To avoid oncoming traffic, the driver made several evasive driving maneuvers, but eventually lost control of the vehicle, traveling into the parking lot of VoMac Sales and Service, striking a parked vehicle, coming to a complete stop. A felony traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was taken into custody.
The driver was then identified as Marvin White, 20, of Terre Haute. He was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
