Sippindippity serving up drinks, something for everyone in Greencastle

A new place for drinks and snacks has opened in Greencastle, and for owner Jackie Dowd, it is allowing her an opportunity to life out her lifelong dream.

That dream is none other than Sippindippity, a cafe that serves up drinks and snacks. The cafe is located at 9 East Walnut St., and is open Monday through Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until midnight.

"I was born and raised here, and have been back in Greencastle since 2017. I started working at the Fluttering Duck at the Inn at DePauw, managing that for eight years. Then I got the call that it was time to pursue my life long dream of owning and operating a cafe. That happened last May, and I said I would take action every single day until I accomplished my goal," owner Jackie Dowd told The Putnam County Post.

For Dowd, when she was looking for a spot to build the cafe, the location at 9 East Walnut St. not only spoke to her, it was a place she was familiar with.

"I realized I worked in that space as a teenager when it was a Chinese restaurant. I had forgotten about that and the location just spoke to me. I knew it was meant to be this place. The location is great as we get a lot of foot traffic. We are a little tucked in, but people ask, "What's this?" and they come in. We are a small, welcoming atmosphere," Dowd said.

Dowd is bringing a new vocabulary to Greencastle as well, as guests can find fizzies, juicies, blendies, creamies and perlies, as well as sippiccinos and steamies.

"Blendies have orange, banana and yogurt base and are like a smoothie. If someone needs a cold, creamy treat, we have the creamies, which is milk and ice cream. Pearlies have a base of cream of coconut and it gives it a tropical, smooth feeling. We can also make lattes, Americanos, hot cocoa and chai," Dowd said.

She said what she hopes takes place is her business is able to serve joy and a connection takes place between her and the customers.

"When I make them a drink that we worked together on, something marvelous happens. I have seen young children do happy dances when they have our drinks. I am looking forward to First Friday's, and we are making a plan for it. We also have an outdoor seating area for people to enjoy, known as Sippindippity Gardens," Dowd said.
