The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency has placed Marshall County under a “Travel Advisory” effective immediately.
A Travel Advisory is the lowest level of local travel restrictions. It means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of hazardous situations, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas. Travel advisories are signified with yellow on statewide travel status maps.
Freezing rain is expected to start falling later this evening, causing icy roads and dangerous travel conditions. The freezing rain is expected to last into Thursday morning when the system will move out and temperatures warm. Total ice amounts of 0.10-0.20” are forecasted.
Marshall County officials will assess road conditions in the morning and make a determination on lifting the advisory. This advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure prior to the freezing rain starting in hopes to decrease traffic before the storm begins.
Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service from 7 PM Wednesday night until 10 AM Thursday morning.
INDOT and the Marshall County Highway Department will be out-treating the roads. Please avoid traveling if at all possible, to allow crews safe operating conditions. Staying home will also help our public safety officials more efficiently respond to emergencies.
Stay tuned to local media and the Marshall County EMA for future updates – including an eventual return to normal travel status.
