Weeks after a series of unfounded threats against Putnam County schools made their way through the county, local law enforcement officials were dealing with another incident Tuesday morning.
According to Sheriff Jarrod Baugh, his department was dealing with a threat within the South Putnam Schools.
In a message to parents, South Putnam Schools officials said a South Putnam Middle School student sent a picture and message via social media of what appeared to be a weapon. It was later discovered the item was not a weapon.
"We are cooperating with law enforcement and further investigating the situation," the message said.
Baugh said his department was notified by the School Resource Officer assigned to South Putnam Schools of a suspicious message sent by a student.
"The issues was quickly determined not to be impending to staff and students," Baugh said.
Baugh confirmed to GIANT fm and The Putnam County Post that his detectives were conducting interviews and would forward all reports to the Prosecutor for review.
"The school is also conducting their own investigation into the matter," Baugh said.
