Lincoln Junior High Assistant Principal named IASP District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year

Josh Martin, assistant principal at Lincoln Junior High School, has been named the District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP), Plymouth Community School Corporation announced.

The award recognizes exceptional educational leaders who demonstrate dedication to student success, school improvement, staff collaboration, and positive school culture.

Martin brings 22 years of experience in education to the honor, including 14 years as an English teacher at Plymouth High School, six years as an assistant principal at Plymouth High School, and the past two years in his current role at Lincoln Junior High School.

He said his motivation to move into school leadership came from a desire to expand his impact beyond the classroom.

"I wanted to broaden my reach — to work with more students and support adults as they grow in their roles as educators," Martin said.

Among his proudest accomplishments at Lincoln Junior High is the school's recognition by Solution Tree as a Promising Practices School, an honor that highlights the building's commitment to the Professional Learning Community process and continuous improvement.

Martin describes Lincoln Junior High as a place defined by its people.

"We have a great staff that truly cares about students and wants to provide top-notch learning and extracurricular opportunities," he said. "Our students are talented and diverse, and I see tremendous potential throughout our building."

Known for his collaborative and approachable leadership style, Martin emphasizes the importance of honest communication, empowerment, and relationship-building — especially in difficult conversations.

"I try to come from a place of caring when having challenging conversations," he said. "Relationships grow when you empower the people around you."

Martin also stressed the value of strong school-community partnerships, noting that trust and engagement from families are essential to helping students grow academically and socially.

For Martin, receiving the recognition is both humbling and meaningful.

"There are many outstanding administrators across District 2, so being recognized by a community of peers is truly an honor," he said.
